The grey dial is more interesting than a conventional flat solar dial. Because the solar collector isn't positioned underneath it, Islander can use a fully opaque metallic dial with genuine texture. Smooth recessed areas beneath the applied hour markers contrast with the textured surface, while silver-tone hands and markers and subtle red accents give the watch a clean, contemporary sports-watch appearance. At the heart of the Saltaire is the Miyota 2070 Ring Solar quartz movement. Unlike traditional solar movements that collect light through the dial, the 2070 integrates its solar collector into the rehaut/chapter ring surrounding the dial. It also features an EOL low-charge indicator: when the stored energy becomes low, the seconds hand begins advancing in two-second increments to tell you the watch needs additional exposure to light.
